Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Santa Monica, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a Labor and Delivery unit with:
- 4 antepartum rooms
- 9 labor/high risk rooms
- 3 triage rooms
- No on-call required
- May float to postpartum if needed
- Responsibilities include:
- Fetal heart monitoring
- High-risk pregnancy monitoring
- C-sections
- Vaginal deliveries
- Postpartum care only if not enough Perinatal RNs; couplet care (newborn and maternal) possible
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Local radius for assignment: 50 miles
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required:
- ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital setting, beachside location
- Total staffed beds: 266
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub colors:
- RNs: Navy Blue
- L&D/OR/Cath Lab: Provided
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
- Drug screen: 10 panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator fit testing required annually (travel only)
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years
Training & Competency
- Must complete required competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- EFM training required for all L&D RNs, met by certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam
- Required to complete facility-specific and regional training modules annually via LMS platform
- Epic system training required prior to or shortly after start
Additional Notes
- Floating policy acknowledgment required; may float to other units within reasonable distance
- Guaranteed hours with facility able to call off once per two-week pay period
- Local travel radius is 50 miles
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who hold the necessary certifications and are comfortable working in a high-risk obstetrics environment with some floating to postpartum care. The role offers a structured schedule without on-call duties and requires compliance with comprehensive health and background screening protocols.
