Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (ICU/MedSurg Tele/PCU)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit/Department Overview
- Float Pool covering multiple units: ICU, Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MedSurg Tele), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and inpatient holding in the Emergency Department.
- Units span across two campuses with varying patient populations and room configurations.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Geriatric patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Post-procedural patients from cath lab (groin site care)
- Post-myocardial infarction (MI)
- Post-cardiac catheterization
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) post-op days 3-4
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required.
- Comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
- Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips (RNs read strips; monitor techs present on some units).
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7 AM to 7 PM (day and evening shifts).
- Scheduling: Managed by float pool scheduler; schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time.
- Night shift may allow block scheduling.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation.
- Call/standby requirement: May be placed on standby during shifts with excessive staff; must be available to be called in.
Additional Information
- Charge nurses present on each unit but do not take patient assignments.
- Nurse aides utilized across all settings.
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen in PCU and MedSurg.
- Staff notified of unit assignments approximately 2 hours before shift start via text message.
- Distance between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes.
- Dress code: Solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs in alignment with organizational guidelines.
- Orientation: Includes an 8-hour general hospital orientation day plus 12-hour shifts on MedSurg Tele and PCU units for unit-specific orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona.
- ACLS and BLS certifications.
- At least 1 year of ICU experience.
- Ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac monitor strips.
- Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam prior to contract start.
This position requires flexibility to float across multiple units and campuses within a 50-mile radius.
