    Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

    Location: San Jose, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract

    Job Description

    • Prepare sterile fields for surgical operations, including setup of sterile instruments.
    • Assist surgeons with gowning, gloving, and draping patients.
    • Support the surgical team by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating needs during surgery.
    • Distribute supplies and perform equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed.
    • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
    • May perform specific procedures and assist in orienting new staff to the department.

    Required Certifications

    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC preferred
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC preferred
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP, Instructor or Advanced Provider Course preferred
    • CCRN (Critical Care RN) - verify by position
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - valid for 4 years
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - typically required for Labor & Delivery
    • State License - current and verified within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS Verification (for RN) within 30 days of start
    • Other certifications may be required depending on the position

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
    • Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year required.
    • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

    Background and Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
    • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
    • Education verification required; BSN preferred for RN positions.
    • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
    • Physical exam required within 1 year of start.
    • Fit mask test required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with accommodations for religious exemptions).
    • Immunizations and health screenings required, including:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
      • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
      • Varicella immunity or vaccination
      • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
    • References: 2 professional references required for clinical positions within 3 years.
    • Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
    • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
