Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a high-volume Emergency Department with over 100,000 visits annually.
• Unit has 101 beds with typical patient ratios of 4:1 for medical patients and up to 7:1 for behavioral holds.
• Staffing includes techs working in cardiac monitoring, triage, and unit clerks for day and night shifts.
• Equipment used includes Baxter pumps and GE monitors.
• Documentation system: Cerner.
• Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling commitment; schedule must meet department needs.
• Floating: No floating outside the ED, but flexibility to float within all ED sections is required.
• Patient experience standards include AIDET communication, respectful behavior, and keeping patients informed throughout their visit.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including 2 years in a high-volume Emergency Department with over 100,000 visits annually.
• At least 2 years experience working in a Level 2 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center.
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least 1 year in an ER setting within the last year.
• Experience working with Level 2 trauma patients.
• Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback.
• Flexibility to work in all areas of the Emergency Department.
• Current certifications required before start date:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
