Registered Nurse - Acute Care Unit (Travel)
Job Summary
Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in an acute care setting. Responsibilities include patient assessment, planning and implementing care, medication administration, monitoring, documentation, and patient/family education. The role requires collaboration with the healthcare team and adherence to hospital policies and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients on admission and reassess regularly, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Develop, review, and update individualized plans of care.
- Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications following the "7 rights."
- Monitor and document patient responses to treatments and medications.
- Perform treatments and procedures using sterile technique and standard precautions.
- Document care accurately and legibly, including pain management, discharge planning, and patient progress.
- Educate patients and families based on assessed needs.
- Interpret diagnostic data and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the healthcare team.
- Use SBAR communication for all handoffs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning.
- Manage patients in restraints according to policy.
- Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital infection control policies.
- Understand and participate in emergency response protocols (e.g., Rapid Response Team, Code Blue).
- Follow protocols for sepsis, ventilator-associated pneumonia, pressure ulcers, and central lines.
- Use specialized equipment such as pressure monitors and bedside cardiac monitors.
- Manage pain and sedation protocols and follow early mobility guidelines.
- Use Pyxis system appropriately for narcotics and follow high-risk medication policies.
- Accurately assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients.
- Float to ICU, Emergency Department, PACU, and Intermediate Care units as needed.
Contract Length
Approximately 27 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience
- Acute care experience within the last year
Additional Information
- Must be able to float between ICU, ED, PACU, and Intermediate Care units to care for critically ill patients.
- Familiarity with hospital policies on blood transfusion, infection control, and patient safety is essential.
