Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Fullerton, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide expert care in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. This role requires independent performance of sterile vaginal exams and triage, with a strong emphasis on clinical expertise and adherence to unit protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision.
- Provide labor and delivery nursing care, including triage.
- Utilize EPIC electronic health record system.
- Float between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units as needed.
- Work every other weekend, with potential for additional weekend shifts to meet unit needs.
- Maintain a patient ratio of 1:2.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year.
- Expert experience in Labor and Delivery and ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision.
- Experience with sterile vaginal exams and triage.
- Certifications:
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- AWHONN
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NRP
Additional Requirements
- No on-call duties required.
- Float to mother-baby unit as needed.
- Scheduling accommodations for block schedules are at manager discretion.
- Required to submit Return to Office (RTO) information at time of submission.
- Facility allows one call-off per two-week pay period.
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with approximately 320 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Meditech.
- Free parking available.
- Scrub color for RNs: Royal Blue.
Compliance & Documentation
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required, including:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- COVID vaccine or declination.
- Respirator fit testing required for travel nurses starting on or after 2/5/2024.
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
Training & Competencies
- Must complete required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Specialty-specific modules for Labor and Delivery.
- Annual regulatory requirements.
- Epic training modules (transcripts required).
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or equivalent training.
- Medication and competency exams as applicable.
Notes
- This position requires adherence to strict certification and competency standards, including AWHONN certification as a hard stop.
- Candidates must be able to work independently and meet all clinical and compliance requirements.
- Scheduling flexibility and willingness to float between related units is essential.
