Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location

  • Twin Falls, Idaho

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
    • Day shifts: Saturday & Sunday
    • Night shifts: Friday & Saturday as able
  • Holiday rotation may be required
  • Scheduling made 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling considered but not guaranteed
  • Staff and travelers cannot work more than 5 shifts in a row
  • Travelers expected to stay flexible and help fill scheduling gaps

Unit Information

  • Labor & Delivery unit with 11 L&D rooms (also used as triage)
  • 2 C-Section OR suites on the floor
  • 2 PACU recovery bays on the floor
  • 17 postpartum beds
  • Average deliveries: 5-6 per day, 150-180 per month
  • Level 3 NICU supporting babies 30+ weeks gestation (babies under 30 weeks stabilized and transferred)
  • Follow AWHONN staffing guidelines:
    • 1:1 for Intrapartum
    • 1:1-3 for Antepartum
    • 1:3-4 for Postpartum/Mother-Baby

Patient Population & Care

  • High-risk patients
  • Must be comfortable working in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units
  • Circulating nurse role in C-sections required
  • Common drips: Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin (insulin drip experience preferred but training available)
  • RNs required to titrate drips

Required Certifications

  • Registered Nurse license (RN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification (or NCC Certified in Fetal Monitoring)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Some postpartum experience required
  • Must have ability to work with high-risk patients
  • Travelers with only Critical Access Hospital experience will not be accepted
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Preference for candidates with experience in similar size L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby departments
  • Epic electronic medical record experience preferred (candidates should specify last use)

Orientation & Support

  • 3 days of orientation with a preceptor in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units
  • Charge nurse does not typically take patient assignments unless necessary
  • Resource nurse available to assist with triage, deliveries, and staff support
  • Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager available on call, not 24/7 in-house
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) available 24/7
  • CNAs assist in postpartum with vitals, baths, ADLs, blood glucose, and other tasks
  • OB physicians in-house during weekdays, on-call nights
  • Neonatologist onsite during the day, Neonatal APP coverage at night
  • CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7 for OB
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for respiratory treatments and equipment management
  • Telemetry techs on unit; RNs expected to identify basic and life-threatening rhythms but not interpret strips

Additional Information

  • Nurses may be floated between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units depending on staffing and census
  • Floating to other hospital areas for sitter shifts may be required; travelers are typically first to float
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; maroon scrubs for CNAs
  • Strong collaborative relationships between providers and nursing staff
  • Located in Southern Idaho, ideal for those who enjoy nature and outdoor activities
