Registered Nurse (MedSurg/Tele/Oncology) - Travel Contract

Location: Bakersfield, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Seeking an experienced MedSurg/Tele/Oncology nurse for a travel contract. The nurse will care for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients including total joints, urology, gynecology, podiatry, general surgery, and potential stroke patients.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in MedSurg/Tele/Oncology
• Active California RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Cerner experience preferred

Unit Details

• 27 beds (13 private, 14 semi-private)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Telemetry: 1:4
  • MedSurg: 1:5
  • Mixed MedSurg/Tele ratio: 1:4
• No RN titration of drips required
• Common drips: Heparin (no cardiac drips)
• Remote telemetry monitoring with Philips equipment; RNs read, interpret, and sign off on strips
• CNAs available based on census
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP (per order); no ventilators

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM and 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
• Holiday requirement: Minimum 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• No call required; standby possible with 30-minute response time if called in
• Shift huddles at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM

Floating & Orientation

• Travelers float first; possible float locations include other MedSurg Tele units, ICU (MedSurg Tele patients), and ER (MedSurg Tele holds)
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with preceptor, including night shifts and first to float

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs required
• Undershirts must be navy, white, or black
• Scrub jackets must be navy
• No hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets allowed
