Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and professional development according to state regulations and nursing codes of ethics. The role promotes a caring, patient-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
• Participate in resource management including staffing, time, supplies, and services.
• Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support nursing governance, unit councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new staff and students.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of 5 years of direct nursing experience as a Staff Nurse, including critical care experience.
• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience within the last year, with a total of 5 years ICU experience preferred.
• 6 months to 3 years of general RN nursing experience.
• Experience in management roles.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Strong critical thinking, sound judgment, organizational, and time management skills.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Commitment to quality, safety, reliability, and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Relevant skills certifications such as PALS, TNCC as required by unit assignment.
