Job Opportunity: Wound and Ostomy RN

Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Wound and Ostomy RN provides direct and indirect patient care in inpatient care areas, focusing on wound and ostomy nursing. Responsibilities include comprehensive nursing assessments, planning and delivering individualized nursing care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and educating patients and families. The RN practices ethically and in accordance with nursing standards and regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert wound and ostomy nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Conduct patient assessments through interviews, observation, and physical exams.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to secure medical plans and nursing histories.
  • Plan, organize, and administer individualized nursing care, including complex techniques.
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to interventions.
  • Delegate nursing care appropriately following Nurse Practice Acts.
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes, risk factors, self-care, and discharge planning.
  • Anticipate and initiate preventive measures for potential nursing or medical problems.
  • Assess nutritional status and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
  • Use relevant equipment, medications, and modalities safely and effectively.
  • Communicate patient progress clearly to nursing staff and other healthcare practitioners.
  • Provide age-appropriate nursing care and assessments.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Establish effective interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
  • Initiate and maintain communication to assess and meet patient and family needs.
  • Provide detailed patient education during inpatient stay and at discharge.
  • Respond effectively to verbal and non-verbal communication from all stakeholders.

Ethics

  • Make patient care decisions ethically and with sensitivity to cultural, spiritual, and personal values.
  • Involve patients and families in care planning respecting their belief systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 1 year of Intermediate Care experience within the last year
  • Wound Care experience and Wound Care Certificate
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending.
  • May involve some repetitive motions.

Experience

  • Specialty experience: Wound and Ostomy Nursing
  • Intermediate Care experience (minimum 1 year within the last year)
