Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (PCU, Tele, Med Surg)

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking RNs to float between Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical units. The role involves caring for inpatients including those holding in the Emergency Department. Units include stepdown and med/tele areas with varying patient acuity.


Unit Details

  • Units Covered: MedSurg, Telemetry, PCU (including stepdown and inpatient holding in ED)
  • Nurse:Patient Ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6
  • Common Patient Types:
    • Geriatric patients
    • Orthopedic patients
    • Post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4)
  • Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
  • Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, and Heated High Flow used in PCU and MedSurg.
  • Telemetry: Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Telemetry units; RNs must be able to interpret cardiac strips.
  • Charge Nurse: Present on each unit but does not take patient assignments.
  • Nurse Aids: Utilized across all settings.

Schedule & Orientation

  • Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
  • Scheduling: Managed by float pool scheduler; schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time. Night shift may allow block scheduling.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Included in permanent staff rotation
  • Call/Standby: None
  • Unit Assignment Notification: Via text message 2 hours before shift start
  • Orientation:
    • 8-hour general hospital orientation day
    • 12-hour shift orientation at West MedTele and PCU units (similar orientation at East campus)

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of Arizona
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in PCU setting
  • ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
  • Comfortable managing multiple titratable drips
  • Ability to interpret cardiac telemetry strips

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities within the past year (radius rule applies).
  • Dress code currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs in October.
  • Travel experience is not explicitly required.
