Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Location: St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights (7p-7:30a), 12-hour shifts
Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun)
Holiday Requirement: Every 3rd holiday
Schedule: Set by manager, with attempts to accommodate requests; schedule released about 2 months in advance
Unit Details
- Labor & Delivery unit with 6 LDRP beds
- No OR suites on unit for C-sections (done in main OR)
- No triage or postpartum beds on unit
- Approximately 17 births per month (220 per year)
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
- Common patient types: labor, delivery, postpartum, mom/baby couplets (>34 weeks gestation)
- Neonatal care includes "well baby" nursery with IV antibiotics, IV dextrose, feeders/growers, and bili babies
- Post-surgical patients (post-appendectomy, post-cholecystectomy) cared for on OB unit
- No VBACs or TOLACs performed
Required Qualifications
- License: Must have a Wisconsin or compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN certification required; EMF Intermediate and STABLE certifications preferred
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of OB experience required
- Ability to manage labor & delivery, postpartum care, mom/baby couplets, well baby nursery, and post-surgical patients on OB unit
- MedSurg experience preferred due to occasional float to MedSurg unit as helping hands
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as oxytocin, magnesium, and insulin
Additional Information
- No charge nurse on shift; only 2 nurses staffed per shift
- House supervisor available 24/7 and NRP trained
- No nurse aides or surgical techs on unit
- OB/Neonatologist and anesthesia coverage in-house during weekdays, on-call after hours and weekends
- Tele/Monitor techs available; RNs not required to interpret their own strips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: OBIX
- Scrubs provided
- OB department orientation: 2 shifts
Summary
This is a night shift Labor & Delivery RN position in a rural hospital setting with a focus on comprehensive OB care including labor, delivery, postpartum, neonatal well baby care, and post-surgical patients. The role requires a minimum of 1 year OB experience, multiple certifications, and flexibility to float to MedSurg as needed. The schedule includes every third weekend and holiday with no call or standby requirements.
