Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery)

Location: Greenfield, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse with experience caring for laboring and postpartum patients. The unit includes 5 L&D beds and 10 postpartum beds, with approximately 430 births per year. Nurses work 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm) with every third weekend required. Holiday availability is preferred.

Unit Details

• Labor & Delivery unit with AWHONN staffing ratios
• Care for laboring and postpartum patients, including pediatrics and Med Surg overflow
• Neonatal care includes babies delivered as early as 32 weeks gestation
• Use of OR located one floor below for C-sections (nurses do not circulate in OR)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
• Telemetry and electronic fetal monitoring (GE system) available on unit
• In-house Neonatal Nurse Practitioner 24/7; OB coverage variable
• CRNA anesthesia coverage 24/7 for OB only
• Respiratory Therapy support available for deliveries and treatments

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery nursing
• Previous experience with laboring and postpartum patients required
• Experience with pediatric and Med Surg patients beneficial

Clinical Skills

• Ability to titrate drips including insulin, magnesium, and Pitocin
• Familiarity with programmed IV pumps for titratable and set rate drips
• Ability to perform fundal checks and care for newborns in PACU

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse on every shift who also takes patient assignments
• One Patient Care Technician (PCT) on night shift to assist with blood sugars
• Nursing supervisor available 24/7
• Floating to Med Surg units on a rotation basis

Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm
• Self-scheduling with shift leads managing the schedule
• Every third weekend required (Saturday/Sunday for days, Friday/Saturday for nights)
• Holiday availability preferred
• Standby call rotation varies with census

Orientation

• One week of unit/department orientation provided

Additional Notes

• Candidates who have worked permanently at this facility within the last 6 months are not eligible
• Dress code: Navy blue or royal blue scrubs for RNs
