Registered Nurse (RN) – Central Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units with a diverse patient population.
- Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological issues (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
- Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
- Manage equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and telemetry monitoring.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Float to other medical units as needed.
Shift / Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary nursing experience.
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).
- Valid Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
- Epic electronic health record training
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
- Floating limited to other medical units only
