    Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

    Location: Fullerton, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Summary

    Seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide expert care in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. The role requires independent performance of sterile vaginal exams and triage, with a focus on high-quality patient care in Labor and Delivery.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision (sterile vaginal exams and triage are hard stop requirements).
    • Provide labor and delivery nursing care with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
    • Float between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units as needed.
    • Work weekends every other week, with the possibility of additional weekend shifts to meet unit needs.
    • Utilize EPIC electronic health record system for charting and documentation.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
    • Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year
    • Ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision
    • Certifications:
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
      • AWHONN Advanced
      • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
      • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

    Scheduling & Work Environment

    • Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed.
    • Must be open to working weekends (every other weekend required, may exceed to meet unit needs).
    • Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.
    • No on-call requirement.
    • Floating between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units is expected.
    • Block scheduling accommodations are at manager discretion.

    • Acute Care Hospital
    • Approximately 320 staffed beds
    • Charting system: Meditech
    • Free parking available

    Additional Requirements

    • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
    • Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start.
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
    • Immunizations and health documents including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (seasonal), COVID vaccine or declination.
    • Respirator fit testing required for travel starts.
    • Completion of required WorkRamp modules and facility-specific training prior to start.
    • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
    • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years.

    Important Notes

    • AWHONN certification is a hard stop; candidates must have passed this certification.
    • Sterile vaginal exams and triage skills are mandatory and must be performed independently.
    • EPIC experience is required.
    • Candidates must be willing to float to mother-baby units.
    • Pending licenses are not accepted.
    • Must be open to weekend work and possible schedule flexibility to meet unit needs.

    This position is ideal for Labor and Delivery RNs with solid clinical experience, strong certification credentials, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic hospital environment.
