Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Coronary Care ICU

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)


Unit Details

  • Unit: CTICU/CVICU
  • Beds: 24
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2 (high number of 1:1 assignments)
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7am–7pm and nights
  • Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (4 total weekend shifts for nights)
  • Holidays: Scheduled based on unit coverage
  • Charge Nurse: Yes, no patient assignment
  • Nurse Aides: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days and nights with high census
  • Float: Required to float to other ICUs and all Telemetry units; patient ratio 4:1 on Telemetry; float to Westgate campus if requested
  • EMR System: Cerner
  • Telemetry Equipment: Phillips
  • In-house Coverage: Intensivist during day, on-call at night
  • Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
  • Pharmacy: Available 24/7, including transplant patient support

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Cardiac surgery recovery
  • Patients with IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) experience preferred
  • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
  • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
  • Lung, thoracic, liver, and kidney transplant patients
  • Procedures: Bronchoscopy, Swan-Ganz catheter, epidurals, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
  • High acuity with many bedside procedures

Required Certifications & Experience

  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; CCRN preferred
  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, CVICU preferred
  • Trauma Experience: Level I trauma experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly stated for this role)
  • EMR Experience: Cerner required
  • Dysrhythmia Exam: Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts allowed; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
