Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fortuna, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position in a Critical Care Float Pool
- Must be comfortable floating between Medical-Surgical (MS), Emergency Department (ED), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Acute Care Facility setting
- Start Date: ASAP
- Average Daily Census: 4 patients
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends off out of every 4 (weekend defined as 2 consecutive days Friday-Sunday)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Experience in Emergency Department (ED)
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
- Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
- IV Certification (as required)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (as required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (as required)
Required Health Documents
- Physical Exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent), updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer, or declination
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer, or declination
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination (including seasonal vaccine for 2024-2025)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance (RespSafety) for respirator use, medically cleared annually
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background Check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education Verification (nursing degree verification required)
- Employment Application covering at least last 5 years
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
- State-specific searches and registry checks as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search)
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background)
Additional Information
- Must be willing to float to multiple units within the facility
- Scrub or business casual attire accepted
- Modules and training required annually via WorkRamp LMS platform, including:
- Regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for ICU, ED, L&D, and leadership roles
- Regional and facility-specific training modules
- Skills checklists and competency exams required annually as applicable
- Float Policy Acknowledgement required (may float to other nearby facilities)
Summary
This is a travel/contract ICU RN position in an acute care setting requiring at least 1 year of critical care experience. The role involves floating between ICU, ED, and Med-Surg units. Candidates must hold or be eligible for a California RN license and have current ACLS, BLS, and other relevant certifications. Comprehensive health screenings, background checks, and compliance with state and facility-specific requirements are mandatory. Annual training and competency modules must be completed through the designated LMS platform.
