Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 10 weeks

Unit Overview

• Emergency Department with 101 beds
• Typical patient ratio: 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
• Staff includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
• Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
• Documentation system: Cerner
• Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
• Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
• Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Level 2 trauma center with Level 2 trauma patients
• Experience in a comprehensive stroke center with stroke patient care experience
• Certifications required before start date:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)

Orientation & Training

• 4-hour hospital orientation
• Followed by an 8-hour floor shift

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs required for RNs (all navy, all white, or combination of navy and white)
