Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Emergency Department with 101 beds
- Typical patient ratio: 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
- Staff includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
- Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Level 2 trauma center with Level 2 trauma patients
- Experience in a comprehensive stroke center with stroke patient care experience
- Certifications required before start date:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
Orientation & Training
- 4-hour hospital orientation
- Followed by an 8-hour floor shift
Dress Code
- Navy scrubs required for RNs (all navy, all white, or combination of navy and white)

- The department is known for strong teamwork and welcoming staff
- Serves a multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken in the area
- Tobacco use is prohibited on all campus properties, including personal vehicles in designated parking areas
Scheduling & Attendance
- Attendance policy provided on day 1
- Must be available to work every other weekend
- Scheduling must align with department needs
