    Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PACU

    Location: Santa Rosa, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
    Start Date: ASAP


    Job Details

    • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU - Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
    • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in inpatient acute PACU (hard stop)
    • Float Requirements: Must be willing to float to Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), Home Health (HH), and other hospital units as needed
    • Patient Load: 8 rooms/beds, average daily census 25-30
    • Weekend Requirement: No weekend shifts required
    • State License: California RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
    • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days

    Required Certifications

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
    • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
    • IV Certification (if applicable)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years, if applicable)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification (if applicable)

    Required Documents & Background Checks

    • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
    • Social Security Card (for certain state requirements)
    • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
    • Background Check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
      • SSN Trace
      • Death Master Index
      • County, Nationwide, and National Sex Offender checks
      • FACIS Level 3
      • Education Verification
      • Motor Vehicle Record (if Home Health)
      • International Background Search (if applicable)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly
    • Education Verification (nursing degree verification required)
    • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search)

    Health & Safety Requirements

    • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
    • Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) updated annually (travel only)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer, or declination
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer, or declination
    • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination

    Competency & Skills

    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
    • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists (updated annually)
    • Color Blind Testing if required by unit
    • Specialty-specific competency exams (e.g., Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring for L&D RNs)

    References & Employment History

    • Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting (supervisor references required)
    • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years (7 years for advanced practice nurses/subcontractors)
    • Explanation for any employment gaps or overlaps

    Additional Information

    • Floating to other units including Ambulatory Surgery Center and Home Health is required
    • Scrub color provided
    • No weekend shifts required
    • First-time travelers not accepted for this position (prior travel experience required)

    Summary

    This is a travel Registered Nurse position in PACU requiring at least 2 years of inpatient acute PACU experience and a valid California RN license. Prior travel experience is required.
