Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit and Work Environment

• Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) / Heart Step-Down / Progressive Care / Cath Lab Recovery
• Number of Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
• Staffing: RNs only (no unit clerks or patient care techs)
• Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Scheduling: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, alternating weekends
• Floating Policy: Travelers float to all areas within the unit
• Orientation: 4-hour hospital orientation plus an 8-hour floor shift

Required Skills and Experience

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
• Experience in cath lab recovery
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
• Experience with Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
• Skilled in titration of vesicant medications
• Familiarity with pressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Proficient in ventilator management and tracheostomy care
• Competent in PA catheter setup and interpretation

Advanced/Preferred Skills

• Experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT highly desirable
• Procedures performed on unit include cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertions, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesis

Certifications and Licenses

• Required: Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Certification
• CCRN certification recommended but not required

Dress Code

• Scrub colors for RNs: All navy, all white, or a combination of navy and white
• No pullovers or hoodies allowed
• No green scrubs except when uniform is soiled at work

Additional Information

• Tobacco use is prohibited on campus and in personal vehicles parked on campus
• 48 hours guaranteed per week; overtime after 48 hours
• Special scheduling requests (e.g., return to office or special shifts) will not be accommodated
