Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule & Work Details

• 36/36 schedule (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• Rotating weekends and holidays
• No call required
• Self-scheduling available
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional shifts beyond commitment may be flexed based on census/resource needs without penalty
• Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Requirements

• Valid Registered Nurse license in Tennessee
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• State License verification
• NURSYS verification

Orientation

• General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs on Sunday)
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation required

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Current, valid Registered Nurse license for Tennessee
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Certification (verify if required/preferred)
• Other certifications as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be preferred depending on unit
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as required

Background & Compliance

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for TN licensed/certified candidates
• Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
• Fit mask testing completed onsite (previous fit tests not accepted)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per guidelines
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
• Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
• Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge (must meet specific standards) within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments (e.g., dress code, smoking policy, exposure statements)
• Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms completed within 48 hours of contract signing
• Participation in annual safety manual acknowledgment

• Preferably 3 professional references (minimum 2 accepted)
• Skills checklist required
