Registered Nurse - Cardiac Observation Unit

Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Provide high-level nursing care for patients in the Cardiac Observation Unit (COU), focusing on Cath Lab patients pre- and post-procedure. Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating assigned patients and planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care
  • Assisting physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Performing patient tests and administering medications within RN scope of practice
  • Preparing patients for Cath procedures, Cardioversions (CV), and Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE)
  • Recovering patients following Cath procedures involving conscious sedation
  • Sedating, circulating, and documenting bedside procedures (CV & TEE)
  • Discharging patients with teaching, documentation, and physical discharge

The unit cares for high-risk, high-acuity patients and performs bedside procedures such as TEE and Cardioversions.


Shift Information

  • Varies: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day shifts between 6:00 AM and 8:30 PM)
  • Call requirements include Saturdays and Sundays on a rotational basis, approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks
  • Weekend call hours: Saturday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, Sunday 7:00 AM–2:00 PM

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Arizona
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Electrophysiology Lab experience, including experience within the last year
  • Cardiac Cath Lab experience
  • Telemetry experience
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
