Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy (RRT), and supervisor support available on all units
• Schedule: 36 hours on / 36 hours off
• Rotating weekends and holidays
• No call required
• Floating between units required
• Hybrid unit requiring previous Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional shifts beyond commitment may be flexed based on census without penalty
• Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
• At least 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
• Previous Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current certifications:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
• Must live within 100 miles of the facility

Orientation

• General orientation begins on Sundays (online computer-based learning)
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Education verification required
• State nursing license primary source verification required
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 14 days of start
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
• Respirator medical evaluation and fit testing completed onsite
• Photo for badge within 48 hours of contract signing
• Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments (dress code, safety manual, exposure statements, tobacco use, influenza policy, etc.)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must commit to completing all compliance documents by deadlines to start on a Sunday
• Hospital supports nursing education and expects contract nurses to assist with clinical education
• Floating between units is required as part of the role
