Registered Nurse (L&D/PP) - Travel Contract
Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum (L&D/PP) nurse for a travel assignment. The nurse will float between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units and must be able to circulate for C-sections.
Unit Details
- L&D Beds: 9
- Postpartum Beds: 4
- Birth Volume: Approximately 55 births per month
- Patient Population: Pregnancies 34 weeks and above, including high-risk deliveries; birth plans are highly respected and followed
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines
- EMR System: Cerner
- Fetal Monitoring System: Fetal Link
- Charge Nurse: Present but does not take patient assignments
- OB Tech Support: One on day shift and one on night shift
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: Not 24/7; after-hours coverage via a remote system after 10pm
- OB/Neonatologist: On call
- IV Team: Not available
- Scrub Color: Provided by hospital
Work Schedule
- Shift: Nights (6 PM to 6 AM)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Worked in rotation with permanent staff
- Call Requirement: None
- Orientation: 3 shifts of floor-specific orientation
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nursing
- Must have experience with both L&D and Postpartum units
- C-section circulating experience required
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Active California RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN certification
- COVID-19 vaccination required
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; no first-time travelers accepted
Additional Notes
- Floating between Postpartum and Labor & Delivery is required
- Patient care includes high-risk deliveries and adherence to individualized birth plans
- Telemetry monitoring system used: Phillips
This opportunity is ideal for experienced L&D/PP nurses comfortable with high-acuity patients and flexible floating assignments during night shifts.
