Job Opportunity: Radiologic Technologist

Location: Lawton, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist performs and assists with radiologic examinations for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. This role involves patient care, proper use of radiology equipment, and adherence to departmental protocols and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare rooms and equipment for radiologic exams according to physician and departmental protocols.
  • Identify patients using two forms of ID and maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Position patients and explain procedures to alleviate concerns and ensure quality imaging.
  • Operate all radiologic and fluoroscopic equipment, including portable machines and C-arm devices.
  • Assist radiologists or surgeons during special examinations and fluoroscopy, using proper radiation protection.
  • Administer contrast media under physician direction and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure patient education and comfort measures.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient condition before, during, and after procedures; respond to emergencies including CPR and Code Blue activation.
  • Transport patients safely to and from the radiology department, managing any necessary medical equipment.
  • Practice radiation safety for self, patients, and others in exposure areas.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic and fluoroscopic equipment and troubleshoot basic malfunctions.
  • Teach and supervise student technologists, ensuring proper exam performance and radiation safety.
  • Perform image processing, review images for quality, and transmit images to radiologists.
  • Maintain accurate records, complete reports, and ensure proper billing documentation in Radiology Information Systems.
  • Schedule exams and coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Maintain continuing education and CPR certification.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond promptly to emergency calls.

Required Qualifications

  • Registry eligible or registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or currently attending the second year of an accredited Radiology program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a radiology department.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use hands for writing, computer use, and operating radiology equipment.
  • Ability to push wheelchairs/carts and handle IV poles and oxygen tanks.
  • Ability to lift medical equipment up to 50 pounds and assist in lifting patients up to 300 pounds.
  • Ability to manipulate patients weighing up to 300 pounds in and out of wheelchairs or onto exam tables.
  • Ability to stand for approximately 2 hours daily, walk throughout the hospital, sit for extended periods, climb stairs, and use step stools.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and squat as needed to position equipment and patients.
  • Adequate hearing and vision to respond to alarms, read screens and signs, and communicate effectively.

Mental and Communication Skills

  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to remember and follow detailed instructions and job requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate medical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret and follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to diseases, foul odors, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations.

Additional Information

  • Must participate in departmental orientation and annual in-service education, including age-specific patient care training.
  • Must maintain proficiency through periodic equipment checks and continuing education.
  • Must be available for on-call duties on a rotational basis.
