Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required
Call Requirements: None
Job Summary
Provide direct patient care for Med/Surg patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize comfort and outcomes. Function within the scope of nursing practice and comply with state regulations and facility standards.
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Med Surg
- Number of Beds: 15 (with 15 additional beds under construction)
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6-7 on nights (ratios not guaranteed)
- Equipment Used: Nova Meters (blood glucose), Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo pumps, SCD machines
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year (inpatient only)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to deliver patient care for all age groups
- Maintain professional accountability and confidentiality
- Evaluate care effectiveness and coordinate with other departments
- May float to other units based on staffing needs
- Adhere to facility mission, values, and service standards
Physical and Work Environment
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs, pinch up to 15 lbs, kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
- Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
- Must be flexible to work varying schedules and shifts as needed
- Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
Dress Code
- Scrub color: Black only
- No open-toed shoes or attire outside of specified scrub color
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccination is mandatory for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; no declinations accepted
- Auto-offer position with flexible guaranteed hours and scheduling options
- Holiday time off requests limited to one per assignment
- Patient care includes post-trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
