Registered Nurse (Med Surg/PCU/Telemetry Neuro Trauma)

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 28-bed unit with a neuro trauma focus
• Common patient diagnoses: strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA post-treatment, neuro specialties (endovascular, AMS, dementia), trauma orthopedic injuries (hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, farm and motor vehicle accidents)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6 (dependent on acuity)
• Nurse aides available with ratios:

  • Days: 1:9
  • Nights: 1:12
• Respiratory therapy equipment on unit: vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, VapoTherm, EtCO2 monitors
• Central telemetry monitoring located remotely; RNs are not required to read their own strips

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU experience, with at least 1 year in a similar setting within the last year
• Must have experience with drip titration (heparin, nitro, diltiazem, amiodarone, 3%, insulin)
• Trach and vent experience highly preferred, especially home trach vents; willingness to learn vent management is acceptable
• BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Open to first-time travel nurses

Schedule & Work Conditions

• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Approximately 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing shifts; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend requirement: every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday requirement: typically 2 out of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to sister Med Surg units with varied specialties (mixed care, cardiac, general, ortho, heme/onc)
• Charge nurse role: nights take full assignment, days take smaller assignment
• Dress code: any solid color scrubs

Orientation & Other Notes

• Unit-specific orientation: 1 shift general orientation + 1 shift with preceptor
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Must disclose if previously worked at this facility; if yes, last end date must be at least 6 months prior to submission
