Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Acuity Adaptable Unit (AAU)
Location: Terre Haute, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit Type: Acuity Adaptable Unit (AAU) with 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU Level of Care: 2:1
- Intermediate Care (IMC) Level of Care: 3 or 4:1
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, Stroke, Respiratory failure, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Sepsis
- Telemetry experience required
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Charge Nurse: ICU trained, serves as Rapid Response Nurse, generally not assigned a patient load
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vitals, intake/output, patient transfers, meals, and call lights (typically 1 PCT per shift depending on census)
- Respiratory Therapist (RT) assigned every shift; RNs provide basic oral care and troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow devices
- Central monitoring station with Phillips monitors; RNs must analyze cardiac rhythms
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift: Days
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Hours per Week: 36
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available; block scheduling accommodated
- Weekend Requirement: 3-4 weekend shifts (12-hour) within a 4-week period; weekends include Fri-Sat night shifts or Sat-Sun day shifts
- Holiday Requirement: Two summer holidays (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) and two winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve/Day) required
- No call or standby requirement
Orientation & Floating
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation plus 3 days (3x12 hour shifts)
- Floating: Possible float to med/surg or inpatient rehab units
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification (AHA)
- ICU or IMC/PCU stepdown nursing experience accepted
- Telemetry nursing skills required
Additional Information
- Radius rule: Candidates must be located between 50 and 100 miles from the facility; no local candidates within 50 miles accepted
- Scrub color: Navy

- Specialty experience: ICU or Intermediate Care/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience required (minimum 1 year ICU/IMC experience implied)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
