Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Cath Lab/ICU Nurse Manager

Location: Garden City, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Role Overview

  • Manage both the Cath Lab and ICU departments.
  • Oversee patient care in Cath Lab (1 Cath Lab room, 3 pre/post bays) and ICU (8 beds).
  • Support pre-procedure, recovery, and bedside procedures including moderate sedation.
  • Enhance nursing competency and foster a positive unit culture.

Patient Population & Care Details

  • Cath Lab: Cardiac, vascular, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, non-invasive cardiology patients.
  • ICU: Cardiac and respiratory cases including sepsis, DKA, NSTEMI/STEMI, COPD exacerbation, CKD.
  • Nurses titrate drips including vasoactive drugs, heparin, IIbIIIa inhibitors, blood products, and ICU-specific medications such as Levophed, Vasopressin, Epinephrine, Nitroglycerin, Amiodarone, Versed, Propofol, Fentanyl, Nimbex, and Insulin.

Staffing & Scheduling

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Cath Lab: 3-4 staff per case (RN/Tech)
    • ICU: 1:2 ratio, can extend to 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Charge nurse is required to take patient assignments but preferably not.
  • Self-scheduling is allowed.
  • Elective cases Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
  • Call required 24/7 including weekends and holidays.
  • Floating required for all staff except charge nurse to assist other departments.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year, with at least 1 year of experience
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification via Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
  • Experience in leadership roles, including at least 1 year of management experience and 1 year of clinical leadership experience
  • Manager experience

Clinical Skills & Equipment

  • Critical care and telemetry experience required.
  • Experience with oxygen delivery, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen in ICU.
  • All staff read cardiac monitor strips intraprocedurally and in ICU confirm strips every 4 hours.

Orientation & Additional Notes

  • Orientation varies by role; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote.
  • Cath Lab pre/post area requires 2 ACLS-certified RNs per shift.
  • Hospital provides laundered scrubs.
  • Radius for travel: 60 miles; valid driver’s license must be submitted.

Shift Details

  • Day shift, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.

The position requires strong clinical expertise, multiple certifications, and the ability to manage and support both Cath Lab and ICU teams in a fast-paced environment with on-call responsibilities.
