Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Critical Care Unit
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Details
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) combining Surgical ICU (SICU) and Medical ICU (MICU) on the same floor
- Total beds: 32 (16 SICU, 16 MICU)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 and 1:2
- Nurse aids available with a ratio of 1:8; 2 CNAs per unit on days, 1–1.5 per unit on nights
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage in-house
- Respiratory Therapists staffed 24/7 (minimum 2 per ICU) with equipment including vents, BiPAP, CPAP
- RNs monitor and read telemetry strips independently
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
- CVA (Stroke)
- Subarachnoid hemorrhage
- Intracerebral brain hemorrhage
- GI bleeds
- DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)
- STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
- Septic shock
- Overdose
- Respiratory failure
- Neurosurgery and open heart surgery patients
- Trauma, burns, and transplant patients are not typically seen
- CRRT, ECMO, balloon pump present but travelers are not required to have experience with these
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (preferably in similar or larger ICU settings)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- RN must be able to titrate drips including dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, cardene, nitro, neosynephrine, vasopressin, diltiazem, insulin, and esmolol
Scheduling & Work Environment
- 12-hour night shifts, typically 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or half of the weekends
- Holiday shifts required as needed, with attempts to accommodate requests
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required to other ICUs within the region (Meridian and Nampa Medical Centers) and occasionally outside ICU as a 1:1 sitter
- Unit-specific orientation lasts 1–2 shifts
- No specific scrub color or dress code requirement
Additional Notes
- Travel nurses do not need prior experience with CRRT, ECMO, or balloon pumps
- Prior travel experience is not required
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address verification before proceeding with profile review
