Shift

• Day shift: 07:00 - 19:30
• Weekend hours as required (approximately every other weekend)
• No call requirements

Unit Information

• Unit: 3 West General Surgery
• Number of beds: 30
• Patient ratios: Approximately 1:5-6 on day shift, 1:6-7 on night shift (not guaranteed)
• Patient population: Surgical patients including GI, GU, plastics, and orthopedic overflow
• Equipment used: Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, SCD machines, PCA pumps, low air loss mattresses, remote telemetry monitors
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg inpatient nursing experience within the last year

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
• Utilize the nursing process to care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
• Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize comfort and outcomes
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
• Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness
• May float to other units based on staffing needs

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk most of the shift
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
• Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs.; pinch up to 15 lbs.
• Minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
• Flexible scheduling may be required to meet patient care needs

Additional Information

• Flu vaccination is mandatory for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
• Scrub color: Black (facility-specific uniform)
• Orientation for night shift occurs during day shift; availability for full orientation week is required
• Guaranteed weekly hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
