Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg
Location
- Saint Louis, Missouri

Contract Length

Shift
- Day shift: 07:00 - 19:30
- Weekend hours as required (approximately every other weekend)
- No call requirements
Unit Information
- Unit: 3 West General Surgery
- Number of beds: 30
- Patient ratios: Approximately 1:5-6 on day shift, 1:6-7 on night shift (not guaranteed)
- Patient population: Surgical patients including GI, GU, plastics, and orthopedic overflow
- Equipment used: Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, SCD machines, PCA pumps, low air loss mattresses, remote telemetry monitors
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg inpatient nursing experience within the last year
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
- Utilize the nursing process to care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and medical comorbidities
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments to optimize comfort and outcomes
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
- Maintain professional accountability and evaluate care effectiveness
- May float to other units based on staffing needs
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs.; pinch up to 15 lbs.
- Minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high-risk factor
- Flexible scheduling may be required to meet patient care needs
Additional Information
- Flu vaccination is mandatory for all travelers from November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
- Scrub color: Black (facility-specific uniform)
- Orientation for night shift occurs during day shift; availability for full orientation week is required
- Guaranteed weekly hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)
