    Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse

    Location: Fullerton, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Description

    • Position located in an outpatient surgery center adjacent to the main facility.
    • Work in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with Phase I and II experience required.
    • Strong ophthalmology experience is mandatory (hard stop, do not screen without).
    • Patient ratio: 1:2
    • Post-shift on-call required from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM; frequency varies by department needs.
    • Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed.
    • No weekend requirement.
    • Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
    • Local radius for travel is 50 miles.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
    • Minimum 3 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year.
    • Experience with AO Phase I and Phase II in PACU.
    • Strong ophthalmology experience.
    • Certifications:
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
      • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
      • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
    • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

    Shift Details

    • Day shift: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week).

    Experience & Travel Requirements

    • Prior travel experience is not required.
    • First-time travelers accepted only if they have 5 years of PACU experience.

    Facility & Work Environment

    • Acute Care Hospital setting with 320 staffed beds.
    • Outpatient surgery center environment.
    • Charting system: Meditech.
    • Free parking available.

    Compliance & Documentation Requirements

    • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
    • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start. Instant tests acceptable if paired with attestation.
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
    • Immunizations and health documents required:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
      • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
      • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
      • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
      • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
    • Respirator safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
    • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
    • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.

    Training & Competency Requirements

    • Must complete required WorkRamp modules annually, including:
      • System-level regulatory modules
      • Specialty-specific modules for PACU and ophthalmology-related care
    • Epic training modules required; candidates must claim their Epic account ASAP and submit transcripts.
    • Medication and competency exams as applicable.
    • Color blindness testing may be required on a unit basis.

    Additional Notes

    • Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other nearby facilities.
    • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
    • No pending license acceptance.
    • Local candidates within 50 miles preferred for local rate consideration.

    This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with ophthalmology background seeking a travel contract in an outpatient surgery setting with a structured day shift and post-shift on-call responsibilities.
