Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, you will be responsible for providing safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. You will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care while supervising licensed and non-licensed staff. The role emphasizes quality outcomes, customer satisfaction, and professional development within a Practice Governance framework. You will also mentor and precept staff, promote teamwork, and participate in quality and safety improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments, making sound independent decisions.
- Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
- Provide and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during the stay and at discharge.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and function as a mentor/preceptor.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and participate in quality, safety, and service process improvements.
- Comply with regulatory standards and participate in Practice Governance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
