Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours: 9 hours/day, 38 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care in the Operating Room setting, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice to a designated patient population. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members on care planning and evaluation.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care teams.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate patient-centered care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Promote cost-effective patient care resource utilization.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with compassion and respect.
- Apply ethical principles in decision-making.
- Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Participate in specialty practice councils and nursing committees.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including within the last year
- One year or more of total travel nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Eye, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), ENT Surgery, Plastic, and Plastic Surgery cases
