Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location
- Lewiston, Maine
- 2nd largest city in Maine
- Close to Portland (40 minutes), Lost Valley Ski Resort (15 minutes), and other outdoor recreational areas
Job Type
- Travel assignment
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- Weekend hours: No guaranteed weekends off, but fair scheduling is prioritized
- No call requirements
Unit and Patient Population
- Emergency Department in a Level 2 Trauma Center
- 4 critical care bays
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics
- Unit uses equipment such as ultrasound, bladder scanner, neuro tele computer, and handheld Care Aware devices
- Electronic Health Records: Omnicell, Cerner FirstNet, SBAR
- Teleneurology support for stroke cases
- No Pediatric ICU; pediatric critical patients are transferred out
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
- Experience managing ventilated patients
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float to ED holding area
Work Environment and Culture
- Level 2 trauma center with chest pain and primary stroke center designations
- Serves a diverse and economically challenged community
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
