Job Opportunity: GI Lab Registered Nurse

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (GI Lab)
  • Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (07:30 - 16:00)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 during day shift
  • Unit Size: 6 procedure rooms
  • Floating: Not required to float outside scope of practice
  • Call Requirements:
    • On-call approximately once a week and every 10th weekend
    • Monday-Thursday call ends at 19:00
    • Friday-Sunday call is 24 hours each day
  • Weekend Requirement: No mandatory weekend shifts outside call schedule
  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of endoscopy experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Pre/Post procedure skills and experience
  • Ability to recover patients from conscious sedation and monitored anesthesia care sedation
  • Procedure experience with bronchoscopy, circulating, colonoscopy, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Magnet designated facility
  • 562 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking permit required, no cost

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions within 30 days of start
  • Primary source verification of RN license and certifications
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
  • Fit mask test required prior to start (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Photo for badge required before start
  • References: 2 professional references required

Additional Notes

  • Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours during the 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
  • Time off requests and schedule accommodations must be discussed with manager
  • Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start if candidate does not hold an Illinois license
  • First-time travelers accepted with adequate experience
  • Prior travel experience is not required
