Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Midshift (1pm - 1am)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to Emergency Department patients using the Nursing Process in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership to ensure safe patient care delivery.
• Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education.
• Delegate patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.
• Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel delivering patient care.
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
• Administer medications and monitor for side effects.
• Adhere to safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Utilize MedHost (EDIS) electronic medical record system.
• Floating to other units is required.
• No on-call responsibilities.

Patient Care Environment

• Emergency Department, Level 3 Trauma center.
• Patient ratio approximately 4:1.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Mexico
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, ENPC
• NRP certification preferred

Additional Information

• Call out/off notification required at least 2 hours before shift start.
• Blocked scheduling and 48-hour guarantees are not approved.
• Return to office (RTO) blackout dates include 1 summer and 1 winter holiday, dependent on department needs.
• Maximum RTO allowed is 1 per schedule (6-week scheduling).
• Scrub color: Any color allowed; full uniform required (no t-shirts or hoodies; only undershirts allowed under scrub tops).
