Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Crescent City, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide comprehensive care in a Family Birth Center setting, including labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
- Work in a supportive, team-oriented rural LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) hospital environment.
- Ideal candidate is adaptable, clinically confident, and committed to compassionate, patient-centered care.
Schedule
- Day shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- Total 36 hours per week
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only; must be Instructor or Advanced Provider Course
- Fetal Monitoring (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN certification valid for 2 years; typically required for Labor & Delivery
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender, education verification, and international search if applicable
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter (or equivalent checks if FACIS III cannot be run)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
- Sex Offender Search within 90 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Employment history verification for up to 7 years with no gaps over 30 days
- Education verification (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- TB screening questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, must clear candidate for work
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (Nov-April) with provisions for medical or religious exemptions
- Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person exam required)
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign facility policies including Standards of Business Conduct, Code of Conduct, Vendor Training, Overpayment Refund Policy, and General Regulatory Orientation prior to start
- Complete and sign conditional offer of employment attestation prior to start
- Review parking and dress code policies
- Complete Epic Questionnaire (RN only) for candidates starting 11/3/2025 and onward
Additional Notes
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions
- Full 7 years of work history must be documented in the application with no gaps
- Religious exemptions for facial hair and vaccines require specific documentation and approval
- Candidates must comply with all health and safety screenings and immunization requirements to maintain clearance
