Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical ICU / Progressive Care Unit

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3pm - 3am (Three 12-hour shifts per week)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Care for ventilated patients and manage critically ill patients with diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia.
• Initiate and titrate IV drips such as vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
• Assist with intubations and line placements.
• Work on a mixed acuity unit with both ICU and progressive care patients; primarily care for progressive care patients.
• Float to all ICU, progressive care, and Medsurg units while maintaining a maximum nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3.
• Utilize equipment including Phillips heart monitors, Epic (EMR), Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers.

Unit Details

• Medical ICU: 24 beds
• Progressive Care Unit: 12 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Progressive Care: 1:3 or 1:4 with transfers or medical patients
  • ICU: 1:2 or 1:3 with transfers or medical patients
• Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
• Never work alone
• Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts must be black or white, short or long sleeves allowed.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years ICU experience required; 2 years ICU experience preferred
• Valid Indiana RN license
• BLS (AHA only)
• ACLS (AHA only)
• Strong background in medical and critical care patients
• Ability to critically think, be flexible, team-oriented, and personable
• Travel experience preferred
• Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities preferred

Orientation & Training

• One day of unit-specific onboarding through workforce development
• Training includes policy review and Epic EMR access
