Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry
Location: Alton, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Acute Medical Unit with Medical and Telemetry patients
- Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts)
- Days Needed: Weekdays and weekends
- Call: No call required
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Average Daily Census: 16-18 patients
- Beds on Unit: 24
- Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients on nights
- Float: Required within service line and scope
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
- Pending License: Not accepted
Clinical Responsibilities
- Care for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients with general medicine, surgical, or infectious disease diagnoses
- Telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions including EKG rhythm identification and management of non-titrating cardiac drips (decrease/weaning allowed)
- Pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care
- Neurological assessment and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients
- Advanced medication infusion without increase titration (excluding certain medications and unstable conditions)
Exclusions:
- Active and unstable gastrointestinal bleeding
- Uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs
- Continuous non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV)
- Medications excluded: Tenecteplase (TNK), Insulin drip, Neosynephrine, Nipride
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) )- AHA only
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Must be able to float within the service line and scope
- Government-issued ID required
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific searches required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required and must be maintained annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required (TB, Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Flu vaccination or exemption)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules required prior to start
- Compliance with facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail policy, and confidentiality agreements
- Annual renewal of required certifications and background checks as applicable

- This position does not accept candidates living within a 75-mile radius of the facility.
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
- No call responsibilities for this position.
- Float assignments are within the same service line and scope of practice.
This opportunity is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, comfortable working night shifts, and capable of managing adult and geriatric patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
