    Description

    Registered Nurse (SICU/CVICU) - Travel Contract in California

    Job Overview

    • Specialty: SICU/CVICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit / Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)
    • Location: Stockton, California
    • Contract Length: 13 weeks
    • Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
    • Hours per week: 36
    • Unit Size: 10 beds
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 or 1:2
    • EMR System: Cerner (experience required)
    • Orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor
    • Floating: Possible to other ICUs or ER for inpatient ICU holds

    Patient Population & Clinical Focus

    • High acuity, fast-paced CVICU unit
    • Patients include those recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR (experience with this required within last 6 months)
    • Common diagnoses and procedures: TAVR, Impella, IABP, STEMI, AAA, hypothermia, sepsis, lumbar drains, Swan-Ganz catheters, manual hemodialysis (preferred)
    • No CRRT patients
    • General medical and surgical ICU experience required in addition to CVICU experience

    Required Certifications & Licenses

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • Valid RN license in California
    • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
    • Minimum 3 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
    • SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) experience
    • Experience recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR within the past 6 months
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • Experience with Cerner EMR system

    Work Environment & Support

    • Charge nurse available 24/7 (does not take patients unless necessary)
    • Resource nurse available 24/7
    • No nurse techs; patient care support staff and unit clerks assist with non-nursing tasks
    • Respiratory therapists available 24/7
    • Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell system
    • Telemetry monitors: Phillips central monitors at nurse station and hardwired in each room
    • Ventilators: Draeger, Hamilton G5, Galileo; transport vent is LTV

    Scheduling & Time Off

    • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (rarely more)
    • Holiday coverage: 2 out of 3 major winter holidays; other holidays as needed, typically covered by permanent staff
    • No self-scheduling; time off requests must be submitted prior to contract start and approved by manager if requested after assignment begins
    • Block scheduling not guaranteed but may be allowed if it fits the schedule

    Dress Code

    • Scrubs: Navy blue required
    • Scrub jackets must be navy blue
    • Undershirts under scrubs must be navy, white, or black

    Additional Notes

    • Must be flexible; assignments and patient acuity can change rapidly during shifts
    • Floating to other ICUs or ER may occur anytime during the shift
    • This is a very high acuity, fast-paced environment requiring adaptability
