Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health – Inpatient (Days)

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 8
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for performing the nursing process as the foundation for patient care in a behavioral health inpatient setting. You will provide direction and oversight to licensed and non-licensed staff, deliver compassionate, patient-centered care, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and continually reassess individualized care plans.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient care needs and develop plans of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide and coordinate nursing care in collaboration with physicians.
  • Assist in patient and family education, including discharge and aftercare planning.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in individual and group settings.
  • Document, report, and verify all necessary patient information according to policies.
  • Monitor and report any potential safety risks to physicians.
  • Function as a clinical leader by delegating and coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development.
  • Utilize and review patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care, contributing to quality improvement.
  • May be responsible for training direct care staff and overseeing medication and physical health activities.
  • May assist with scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
  • Provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
  • Support and promote a recovery-focused, person-centered approach in the community residential setting.
  • Uphold professional image and organizational mission, values, and standards.
  • Maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in required programmatic training.
  • May function as a charge nurse.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Michigan.
  • Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience.
  • Pediatric experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in behavioral health settings.
  • Excellent customer service skills and enthusiasm for behavioral health programs.

Additional Information

  • Opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week with potential for additional shifts (up to 48 hours), though extra shifts are not guaranteed.
