Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health (Inpatient) – Nights
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (8 hours per day)
Job Summary
Registered Nurse responsible for performing the nursing process as the basis for patient care in a behavioral health inpatient setting. Provides direction and oversight to licensed and non-licensed staff, delivers compassionate, patient-centered care, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and reassess care plans. Functions may include charge nurse responsibilities and clinical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and develop, implement, and continually reassess individualized plans of care.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate nursing care.
- Educate patients and families regarding discharge and aftercare planning.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in individual and group settings.
- Document, report, and verify all necessary patient information per policies and procedures.
- Monitor and report any potential safety risks to physicians.
- Promote quality improvement, professionalism, and positive relationships within the care environment.
- Provide care across diverse clinical settings and patient populations.
- Delegate and coordinate staff assignments; promote staff development.
- Utilize and review patient care protocols and standards of practice.
- May train direct care staff and oversee medication and physical health activities.
- May be responsible for scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
- Uphold organizational mission and values, including integrity, stewardship, empowerment, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
- Support and promote a recovery-focused, person-centered approach in community residential settings.
- Maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in required programmatic training.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional excellence and compassionate care.
Additional Information
- Opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week with potential for additional shifts (up to 48 hours), though extra shifts are not guaranteed.
- May function as a charge nurse with supervisory responsibilities.
- Position requires adherence to a recovery-focused and person-centered care philosophy.
- Must maintain competencies through ongoing training.
