Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Unit Information
- Unit: Labor & Delivery (Women’s and Children’s building)
- Number of beds: 12
- Patient ratios: 1:2
- Staffing includes RNs, unit secretary, and OR techs
- Documentation systems used: CPN, Meditech
- Scheduling: 3 weekend shifts, 1 call shift for RNs, 2 call shifts for techs, 3 twelve-hour shifts
- Floating policy: Travelers float first
- Patient experience focus: Shared decision making
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required:
- AWHONN
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Skills and Procedures
- Advanced skills in care of laboring patients and newborns immediately after delivery
- Experience with circulating and recovering cesarean section patients
- Procedures performed on unit include:
- Vaginal deliveries
- Cesarean sections
- Dilation and curettage (D&C)
- Cerclage
- Epidural anesthesia support
- Tub labor assistance
Dress Code
- Required uniform colors: Ceil Blue, Navy Blue, or Gray scrubs (not provided by hospital)
Additional Notes
- Unit encourages shared decision making and values patient experience
- Travelers are given priority for floating assignments within the unit
