Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Unit Type: 10 Tower, includes 22 Acute Care beds and 8 Neuro Stepdown beds
- Patient Ratios:
- Acute Care: 6:1
- Neuro Stepdown: 4:1
- Staffing: 1 RN Charge nurse oversees entire 10 Tower, supported by 1-2 techs and a unit secretary
- Equipment:
- Acute Care: Vital sign machines, high flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction, various drips, stroke care equipment
- Neuro Stepdown: Vapotherm, Bipap, tracheostomies, titrating cardiac drips
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Scheduling: Weekend shifts are required
- Floating Policy: Experienced nurses may float after orientation
- Patient Experience: Bedside shift report, personal connection with patients, daily huddles
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Acute Care experience
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
Procedures Commonly Performed
- Lumbar puncture
- Chest tube placement
Work Environment & Culture
- Dress Code: Black, any shade of blue or grey scrubs; any color scrubs allowed on Fridays
