Description
Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment
Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Medical ICU with 26 beds
- Patient ratio: 2:1
- Staffing includes RNs and unit secretary/COVID runner; total care provided by RNs
- Equipment used: ventilators, Alaris IV pumps, balloon pumps, ventriculostomy drains, glucometers
- Documentation system: Meditech with Evidence Based Clinical Documentation (EBCD)
- Scheduling: 12-hour shifts (7 AM to 7 PM), every other weekend, holiday shifts required
- Floating: Nurses may float to other Medical-Surgical units, prioritizing ICU coverage
- Patient experience focus: hourly rounding, bedside hand-off reporting, “My Care Board” completion, use of AIDET for compassionate care
- PPE includes masks, face shields, goggles, PAPRs, and hoods for COVID-19 patients
- Unit recognized as HCA Unit of Distinction (top 10% and 5%), ranked #2 ICU in HCA in 2019
- Many staff nationally certified; several highly tenured nurses
- Self-scheduling available within guidelines
- Use of iMobile technology by staff

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficient in ventilator management and critical care drip knowledge
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced skills: ventilator management, critical care drip knowledge
- Proficient assessment skills with cardiac, neurological, and respiratory systems
- Ability to don and doff PPE correctly
- Positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork, self-motivation, strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment

- Intubations
- Cardioversions
- Ventriculostomy drain placement and management
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Proning of patients
Dress Code
- Ceil blue scrubs required
- White or ceil blue scrub jacket optional
- Green surgery scrubs provided when working with COVID-19 patients
