Description
Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (1800-0630), 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- 11 room, 16 bed pediatric unit
- Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma center
- Required work setting experience: Pediatric MedSurg, Pediatric Step Down/Telemetry
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience, with pediatric experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Telemetry experience
- Placement of oral/nasogastric tubes
Schedule & Hours
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- Open to discussing block schedule requests with manager
- Ideally no more than 5 days off during the contract
Facility & Work Environment
- 372 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Parking permit required, no cost
Required Pre-Employment & Onboarding Documents
- Valid/current US Driver’s License or US ID card
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including:
- SSN Trace, Counties, States, National Criminal, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
- Illinois Department of Corrections Inmate Search
- Illinois Most Wanted Search (must show all 20 wanted fugitives)
- Illinois State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry
- Education verification (initial degree verification required)
- Primary source verification of state license and certifications (NURSYS for RN)
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo (color, mid-shoulders up, plain background) due before start
- Signed Code of Conduct within 7 days of contract signing
- Parking permit form to be completed within 7 days of contract signing (if applicable)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate provider, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer for measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer or signed declination
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required by November 30 annually
Additional Notes
- No on-call required
- Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
- Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for candidates without an IL state license providing direct care
- Candidates must comply with all state-specific background and registry checks as required by Illinois regulations
This position is suitable for pediatric RNs with at least 2 years of experience, comfortable working night shifts in a pediatric acute care setting with telemetry and step-down patients. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
