Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Oncology 6S Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7 AM – 7 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Details:

• 36-bed unit specializing in Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Royal blue scrubs required
• No false nails allowed

Patient Population & Care Focus

• General MedSurg patients and some post-operative cases (lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy)
• Oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections
• Frequent management of chest tubes, including PleurX chest tubes for malignant patients discharged home
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) / ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification is a plus

Experience & Skills

• Experience with oncology patients and chemotherapy administration preferred
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors) required; central monitor tech available but RNs must interpret strips themselves
• Experience with chest tube management highly desirable
• No cardiac drip titration; only Heparin drip titrated on unit
• RT manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment or administer respiratory treatments

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does
• Three CNAs per shift (days and nights) assist with patient care
• House supervisor presence not specified

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• 12-hour shifts, day shift detailed; night shift also available (7 PM – 7 AM)
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• Holiday work included in permanent staff rotation schedule
• Floating: staff may float to any MedSurg/Telemetry unit; no specific float ratio cap mentioned
