Description

Registered Nurse (Telemetry)

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7p-7a)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)


Unit and Patient Population

  • Telemetry units on 3rd and 7th floors pool staffing together; floating between these floors is expected.
  • 3rd Floor: 20 beds, cardiac focus including post-op open heart, TAVRs, ablations, cath lab patients, pacemakers, and medical telemetry.
  • 7th Floor: 35 beds, general telemetry including post-procedural overflow, CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, post-stroke patients, and more.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Charge nurse present on each unit, typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary.
  • CNA support: 3 CNAs on 3rd floor, 5 CNAs on 7th floor; typical CNA-to-patient ratio about 1:8 depending on staffing and census.
  • Respiratory therapists available on each floor to manage high respiratory needs and administer breathing treatments; RNs may assist if needed.
  • Remote telemetry techs located on 3rd floor; nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips twice per shift.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Must have post-procedural cardiac experience (cath lab, ablations, open heart surgery).
  • Preferred experience in PCU and Stepdown units.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry accurately.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Ability to titrate heparin drips; insulin drip experience not required as training is provided.
  • Experience with set-rate cardiac drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine, and dobutamine.

Scheduling and Work Expectations

  • Schedule typically made 6 weeks in advance; flexibility required to fill gaps.
  • Block scheduling not guaranteed; maximum of 5 consecutive shifts.
  • Weekend shifts required: approximately 5-6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (days on Sat/Sun, nights on Fri/Sat).
  • May be asked to work some holidays, but not every holiday.
  • No regular call or standby requirement; floating is more common.
  • Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to other medical-surgical or telemetry units within the hospital or sister facilities in nearby cities.

Orientation and Additional Information

  • Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts total (1 shift on 3rd floor, 1 shift on 7th floor).
  • Scrub color is flexible; any color scrubs allowed.
  • Traveler-friendly environment with leadership that treats travelers like permanent staff.
  • High likelihood of contract extensions due to positive traveler experience.

This position is ideal for RNs with strong cardiac telemetry skills who are comfortable floating between units and working night shifts in a dynamic hospital setting.
