Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: San Mateo, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-volume ambulatory surgery center with fast-paced turnover.
- Provide relief coverage for staff breaks and support prolonged/complex OR cases.
- No on-call or weekend coverage required.
- Shift primarily from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM (40 hours/week).
Clinical Competencies & Experience
- Experience with da Vinci robotic surgical systems.
- Competency in moderate sedation.
- Strong background in orthopedics: joint procedures, arthroplasty, sports medicine.
- Preferred experience in ophthalmology procedures: cataract, glaucoma, retinal.
- Proficiency in general surgery, plastics, EENT, and vascular cases.
- Familiarity with surgery center workflows, room set-up, and quick case transitions.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience in an outpatient setting.
- Experience in ophthalmology.
- Experience in orthopedics.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law).
- Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps, and verification of up to 7 years employment.
- 2 professional references required (within 3 years).
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS and BLS (AHA or ARC only).
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required.
- Additional certifications may be verified depending on position requirements.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must indicate cleared for work).
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
- Negative TB test (QGold, TSPOT, or PPD) within 90 days, renewed annually.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive IGG titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or signed declination.
- Varicella: Positive IGG titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Color vision exam (in-person) if applicable.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually.
Facility-Specific Documents & Training
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and general regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Completion of Epic questionnaire required for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward.
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and vaccine exemptions, approved on a case-by-case basis.
